What an adventurous band camp with time to develop our band family, hard work and great learning. Students worked through Kona weather and the threat of storms to grow and become quite a cohesive unit. Absorbing information and guidance from a great staff, this was truely the best band camp I have been a part of! This blog will be short and sweet to get out the necessary details. More information will follow regarding band camp videos and pictures as well as future events.
We have rehearsal on the first day of school and will need to perform for the convocation. Rehearsal starts at 7:15 on the football field, so work to be at the band room no later then 7:00. There will be a short time between rehearsal for students to change into their stand shirt. Students should bring water to put by their seats at the side of the football field.
Important items to remember…
1. The uniform for the performance Thursday morning is stand shirt, denim (long pants or jean shorts are ok) and athletic shoes.
2. Drop off is best in front of the science center, allow time to be in the band room by 7:00.
3. If students plan to get dropped off by the tennis courts, traffic flow must not be blocked at any time.
4. Punahou Street and the small parking lot next to Mau are NOT safe places to drop off students. Please plan accordingly.
5. We will perform the Star Spangled Banner, Hawaii Ponoi, School song, fight song, and maybe Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai and a couple of the stand tunes.
More info to follow … thanks for your patience! Our performance dates are on the calendar tab. Exact call times have not yet been calculated. We are awaiting confirmation for buses.
All PMB students and their families are invited to join us at our beach day picnic on:
Saturday, August 29th
11am - 2pm
Magic Island picnic site 29/30 (see attached map - we'll be near the Magic Island parking entrance, look for the PMB banner)
Bring your own beach chair and a potluck dish to share. Potluck assignments are based on your section. Just bring enough to feed about 12 people (for drinks, please bring for 24 people). We hope that everyone can make this beach day picnic as it's a great opportunity to share some ono grinds and enjoy some relaxing bonding time.
We are in need of families to bring about 8 tables (ideally the 6 ft. long type) and 6 pop-up tents. If you are able to bring a table and/or tent, please email Dana Matlin at [email protected].
Potluck assignments:
Salad / Fruit – Clarinet, horn
Rice / noodle / starch – Flute, tuba, drum majors
Main dish – Percussion, trombone
Dessert – Trumpet, tenor saxophone
Drinks – Alto Sax, color guard, euphonium
