Welcome to October! We are entering the home stretch of the marching season.
We have some great news and acknowledgments. The students throughout their busy weekend played at the football game, Flaming P and the Aloha Week parade with great spirit and skill. Though the heaviest rain of the homecoming game occurred during the halftime performance, the students performed exceptional throughout. Many thanks have come to the band office for their contributions at the Flaming P. At the Aloha Week Parade the Punahou Marching Band won first place in the overall band category as well as first place in the Hawaiian music award. The band will receive a cash award and we will be receiving a visit from the parade coordinator for an official presentation. This is a great start as we continue to get ready for the Rose Bowl in 2016.
Back to the nuts and bolts of band… Students should make sure that they have finished their SmartMusic assignments. 75% of the assignments are submitted with passing scores. Lets finish up our music assignments before the quarter is over. The sooner the better!
We have been cleared to perform at half time this next week even though we are the visiting team. The uniform will be the new aloha shirt uniform. Please make sure that students have long black socks and all of their uniform parts. Students who forget need to rent the parts from the boosters to be able to participate.
Because the game is at 5:30PM, we need to load the buses at 3:50 to leave at 4. This is a short window of time for those who have a 3:30 class. Make sure that they eat and change quickly so that we can play the school song at the football game. VP meal #3 will be distributed starting at 3:00pm. Punahou administration and the band program values the students' time in class and prefer to have them attend their full classes in these situations.
Please save November 23rd for the band banquet. More details to follow.
Lastly, we have a few details about the Rose Bowl Parade. We are just getting started putting together the itinerary. We hope to have the first informational meeting in January or February so that families can make appropriate plans with time and finances to allow those interested to participate.
