Here is a long update, but really important. We are really starting to get busy!
This Friday's football game- at Iolani- uniform is stand shirt, long jeans, close toes shoes and a belt.
Students have the option of being excused from classes at 2:00 or not attending the game. The bus needs to leave at 2:30. There is no Value Plan Meal for this event as we hope to return by 6:15pm. A small snack could help them with energy levels through the day.
A number of wind players do not have lyres at rehearsals. It will be very important for each wind player to have one and a flip folder so that they can reference their music at rehearsals and read it at the football game performances. Please help the students succeed through having the correct equipment. They are available at music stores, the brand and model of instrument may be needed to ensure the best fit.
Saturday, September 12 we will have Parade Practice with the entire band from 10-noon. Some sections are starting earlier. This practice is required for students participating in the Rose Parade, but would also be useful for other students as we will be working to ensure our success at the Aloha Parade on the 26th. Come work on the music and marching and then go out to lunch together.
Stadium Early Release At Aloha Stadium- Option
Attached is an OPTIONAL Early Release Form for Parents who prefer to pick up their student at Aloha Stadium after half time, before the end of the game.
If your student will be riding the bus back to school from every band event, you do not need to fill out this form. The form is due by Monday September 14, 2015. Please place in the marked envelope in the Band Directors office.
NOTE: If you submit an Early Release Form; your son/daughter must be picked up at the Stadium after half time for all future stadium events. There is no "on/off" option.
Parents must sign out with Mr. Nakasone. Please see Eleanor Low at the stadium if you need assistance.
If interested please go to the website and download the form from the blog.
School drop-off and parking reminders and updates:
Students can be dropped off above the field right next to the tennis courts (using the tennis court bypass road). Please DO NOT drop off your child anywhere along the bypass road to the tennis court.
Please DO NOT drop off your student or park (even near the wall) in the athletic (band) parking lot (all stalls are reserved for the athletic office)
Please DO NOT drop off your student off on Manoa Road by the athletic (band) parking lot or on near the Manoa Street driveway entrance
If you need to park your car, please check with a security guard
The safest location to drop/pick-up your child is in front of the Science Center (this includes evening rehearsals)
Value Plan
-Due to high volume, we will order only TWO different meals per week, Regular and Vegetarian.
-People who ordered REGULAR meals but have restrictions (i.e. do not eat red meat or pork) may want to SWITCH to VEGETARIAN. However, you may not switch back and forth from week to week; this is a one-time switch!
-We will put the menu in the band blog ahead of time so that they can bring supplemental food, if desired.
-The vendors are made aware of the various allergies (peanut, nut, shellfish, mango, li hing powder) and will not use them in our dishes, however we cannot guarantee that the vendors are completely allergen-free.
DEADLINE: If you would like to switch, contact Mr. Falzarano by Friday, 9/11/15
We have exciting news! The Punahou Marching Band will again participate in the Aloha Week Festivities! The band will march in the Aloha Parade Saturday September 26th. This is such an exciting opportunity but we will need your HELP!
We are seeking volunteers with making the lei decorations, fresh flower/greenery donations:
1. Food. A heads up - Since this is a very early report time 615AM; we currently plan to feed students one of the value plan meals to make sure we are all ready after a football game the night before.
2. Lei Decorations. Aloha Week Parade rules state that all lei decorations must be made of FRESH greenery and flowers. We would like to have our 8 ft banner adorned with fresh ferns, laua'e, ti-leaves and yellow plumeria. We are requesting help from the wonderful boosters for donations of fresh greenery and flowers and assisting in creating the lei banner.
All floral/greenery donations and supplies must be dropped off at the band room by 4pm September Tuesday September 22 to Thursday September 24. They may also be dropped off at Beretania Florist. Please mark donations "Punahou Marching Band"
Here is our greenery and plumeria request:
Yellow Plumeria - strung on crochet thread, dental floss or any sturdy string, please leave 10" on each end so we can attach the strands together. If you are not able to string the plumeria but have some to donate, we'll string it!
Ferns - any type of ferns are welcome!
Laua'e - we need the dark green leaves (no spores)
Green Ti-Leaf - prefer ones that are dark green
Bird of Paradise
Song of paradise
3. Volunteers
a. Decorators: Please meet us in the band room on Friday September 25 from 6PM-10 PM
b. Aloha Parade: We will need volunteers the day of the parade to assist in assembling the lei decorations and water relief for band members (volunteers will walk behind band with the two small wagons and provide water during approved times during the 3.5 mile walk)
Questions? Email Mr. Falzarano and he will forward to the appropriate committee.
Last, but not least … The boosters will hold their next meeting in Luke Lecture Hall, Wo International Center at 5 p.m. on Monday. We are utilizing Robert's Rules of Order to move our discussions forward. All are welcome to attend to get a taste of what the boosters do to support the students.
Ribbons are for sale for $7 to support our participation in the parade. The proceeds help make the parade possible and also support getting a fiberglass sousaphone that we no longer use repaired and given Nanakuli High School. As participants in the parade, we are expected to sell 1 ribbon per person. A form will come out next week and monies will be collected through the band office.
